Iakovos Tziortzis, founding member and counselor of the NGO ENALIA PHYSIS ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH CENTRE, graduated from the Biology Department of the University of Patras, Greece (2005). In 2008 he completed his Masters Thesis in “Ecology–Protection and Management of Natural Environment” dealing with the ecological assessment of transitional and coastal water bodies using bioindicators. He is experienced in monitoring and management of aquatic ecosystems and the use of biological communities for the assessment of the ecological quality of water. He has also worked in research programs, environmental impact assessment studies and biodiversity issues concerning both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
His main activities concern the use of Biological Quality Elements in Rivers, Coastal and Transitional waters and assessment of their ecological quality. He has more than 10 years of scientific experience in the field and has been working for more than 8 years in the private sector on various projects focused on ecological and environmental management.
Iakovos has attended several national and international congresses, workshops and meetings dealing with environmental issues such as freshwater and saline aquatic ecosystems, biodiversity, nature conservation, environmental education etc. and has several publications in peer-reviewed journals.
He loves sports, scuba diving and nature expeditions.
