Project Title: Assessing and protecting marine biodiversity (Jubilee Shoals, SBAA Akrotiri, Cyprus)

Aim: To produce the necessary information to manage and protect the remarkable marine habitats of the shoals.

Goals:

  • To assess the thriving biological communities in four marine habitats at Jubilee Shoals (SBAA Akrotiri) in Cyprus: sea meadows, rocky reefs, submerged caves, and coralligenous assemblages
  • To study the geomorphology of the cave system
  • Determine the seasonal variability of selected environmental parameters
  • To assess and characterize the human activities  on the habitats of the shoals 
  • To promote awareness and engagement of stakeholders to support conservation actions to mitigate the human footprint
  • To contribute to capacity building by the training and education of students
