Increasing Marine Environmental Awareness Through the Creative Arts | Recognition by the EU

Η Enalia Physis ανακοινώνει υπερήφανα ότι η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση κατέταξε τo εκπαιδευτικό project μας ”Increasing Marine Environmental Awareness Through the Creative Arts” ως επίσημο τμήμα της αποστολής της «Αποκατάσταση των Ωκεανών και των Υδάτων μας» (#MissionOcean).

Το project μας έχει ως στόχο να προσφέρει εκπαιδευτικά, δημιουργικά εργαστήρια σε ιδιωτικά και δημόσια σχολεία όσο και σε περιβαλλοντικά κέντρα και να ευαισθητοποιήσει όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερα σχολεία και μικρά παιδιά σχετικά με ορισμένα κρίσιμα ζητήματα που αφορούν στη θαλάσσια και παράκτια ζωή της Κύπρου. Το έργο αυτό υποστηρίζεται από το Cyprus Environment Foundation από τον Οκτώβριο του 2022.

Με ορίζοντα το 2030, η αποστολή της Ε.Ε. «Αποκατάσταση των Ωκεανών και των Υδάτων μας» αποσκοπεί στην προστασία και την αποκατάσταση της ευημερίας των ωκεανών και των υδάτων μας μέσω της έρευνας και της καινοτομίας, της συμμετοχής των πολιτών και των γαλάζιων επενδύσεων. Η αποστολή προσεγγίζει τους ωκεανούς και τα ύδατα ως ενιαίο πλαίσιο και θα διαδραματίσει καίριο ρόλο στην επίτευξη κλιματικής ουδετερότητας και στην αποκατάσταση της φύσης.

Τι ακριβώς σημαίνει αυτή η επιτυχία για εμάς και το project μας;

Με αυτή την αναγνώριση η Ευρωπαïκή ‘Ενωση, διαβεβαιώνει ότι όλες οι δράσεις που περιλαμβάνονται στο project ακολουθούν και πληρούν τους στόχους που έχει θέσει η αποστολή οι οποίοι είναι οι εξής:

1. Προστασία και αποκατάσταση των θαλάσσιων και γλυκών υδάτινων οικοσυστημάτων και της βιοποικιλότητας, σύμφωνα με τη στρατηγική της ΕΕ για τη βιοποικιλότητα 2030.
2. Πρόληψη και εξάλειψη της ρύπανσης των ωκεανών, των θαλασσών και των υδάτων μας, σύμφωνα με το σχέδιο δράσης της ΕΕ για τη μηδενική ρύπανση για τον αέρα, το νερό και το έδαφος.
3. Μετατροπή της βιώσιμης μπλε οικονομίας σε κυκλική και ουδέτερη (ως προς τον άνθρακα), σύμφωνα με την προτεινόμενη ευρωπαϊκή νομοθεσία για το κλίμα και το ολιστικό όραμα που κατοχυρώνεται στη στρατηγική για τη βιώσιμη μπλε οικονομία. Αυτή η συνεργασία προβλέπεται να αυξήσει τον αντίκτυπο των δραστηριοτήτων που αναλαμβάνονται στο πλαίσιο της Αποστολής σε επίπεδο λεκάνης απορροής και όχι μόνο, και να αυξήσει την ευαισθητοποίηση.

Enalia Physis’s educational associates are very proud to announce that their educational project ”Increasing Marine Environmental Awareness Through the Creative Arts” , (a project supported by the Cyprus Environment Foundation since October 2022), is now officially part of the #MissionOcean community! We are so proud!

What does this mean for us and why is it important?

This means that we have joined forces with organizations, NGOs and other stakeholders from all around Europe in order to work towards supporting the EU’s Mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters’. This mission aims to protect and restore the health of our ocean and waters through research and innovation, citizen engagement and blue investments. The Mission’s new approach will address the ocean and waters as one and play a key role in achieving climate neutrality and restoring nature. This is surely, up until now, one of the project’s greatest achievements!

What is our project all about?

This project’s aims to deliver educational, creative workshops both in private and public schools as well as environmental centers, and raise awareness to as many schools and young children as possible regarding some crucial matters which concern our island such as the bycatch of marine vulnerable species, marine litter, the poor management of Posidonia seagrass and the threats and conservation of the Mediterranean monk seal Monachus monachus to mention a few. The proposed activities seek to actively engage young children (between ages of 3 to 12) and captivate their imagination through music, the visual arts, movement, dance, drama and storytelling.

Through this, the European Commission assures that all actions of this project play a key role in delivering against and contributing to one or more of the following Mission Ocean and Waters 2030 objectives: 

1. Protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, in line with the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030.

2. Prevent and eliminate pollution of our ocean, seas and waters, in line with the EU Action Plan Towards Zero Pollution for Air, Water and Soil.

3. Make the sustainable blue economy carbon-neutral and circular, in line with the proposed European Climate Law and the holistic vision enshrined in the Sustainable Blue Economy Strategy.

This recognition enables the project to be displayed on a dedicated website for the Mission Ocean Charter Actions and includes it in Mission Ocean and Waters materials and tools. This collaboration is predicted to increase the impact of the activities undertaken under the Mission at basin level and beyond, and
raise more awareness.
