About Us
Vision |
A future where human activity harmonises with natural ecosystems, ensuring the long-term sustainability of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Mission |
To protect and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources in Cyprus through scientific research, advocacy, education and awareness, driving conservation and societal transformation.
By integrating ecological research with public policy advocacy, we aim to conserve biodiversity, address critical environmental issues, and enhance the resilience of ecosystems, particularly within the eastern Mediterranean. We are committed to fostering environmental awareness and sustainable development through scientific collaboration and public engagement.
Our Story
Enalia Physis Environmental Research Centre is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation based in Cyprus, active since 2009. The organisation operates at national and Mediterranean levels and focuses on environmental research, biodiversity conservation, and environmental education and awareness, with particular emphasis on marine and coastal ecosystems.
The scope of work of Enalia Physis combines scientific research with education, awareness raising, and stakeholder engagement. Its core areas of activity include marine and terrestrial biodiversity monitoring, conservation of protected species and habitats, sustainable fisheries research, and the promotion of environmental literacy among adults, children and local communities. The organisation adopts an interdisciplinary approach, linking ecological science with social dimensions such as traditional knowledge, cultural heritage, and community participation.
The organisation has strong experience working with diverse adult audiences, including fishers, local authorities, NGOs, students, and the general public, translating complex scientific concepts into accessible and practical knowledge.
Our interdisciplinary team of experts spans fields including biology, ecology, environmental education and socio-economics, enabling us to address pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, overfishing, and marine pollution. We collaborate globally to enhance ecological resilience, advocate for evidence-based environmental policy, and contribute to scientific progress through innovative research.
Driven by our commitment to sustainability, we are actively engaged in public outreach and education, ensuring that scientific knowledge translates into societal action. Through EU funding, international charity foundations, international partnerships and private and corporate donations, we continue to champion solutions that protect and restore vital ecosystems.
We strive to be a leading centre for ecological research and environmental advocacy, driving innovative solutions to environmental challenges and shaping sustainable policies for future generations.
Our actions today shape the Earth’s story for generations to come
